Remembering MO

My brother was a great musician and singer. He played guitar like they were one spirit. When he'd play blues harp, he wrapped his entire being around that thing. I loved to watch his movements as he played. He was gifted and real and he was music from his head to his toes. He was well known and admired by local musicians and band members.

We gathered around many a campfires, guitars playing, voices harmonizing. This was our family. Friends and family, kids and adults, would sit and stare into the flames, listening as Mo would begin to caress the strings and play as only he could.

Though alcohol robbed so much from him, and finally his life.........I try to forget that and remember what he gave in his music. His life was way to short.

Today my daughter gathered up some of the tapes we'd made through the years, wanting to edit them down to one and give to a friend of his. She also printed out this picture for him. I thought I'd post it here to share. I'm sure he wouldn't mind.

I love you, Morris.

What a great picture of your brother! And doing what he loved the best. It sounds like he was a very special brother and uncle. Sometimes the ones we love the most are taken from us too soon. But I'm sure that MO knows that he was special and loved by you all.

Thank you for this very touching post!

Hey Nita ... By now you know I visit here regularly. ;)

I visit a lot of blogs and even sign a guest book now and again, but seldom, if ever, leave a comment. This time I just had to let you know how touching this post is. A great photo of MO and a beautiful tribute from a loving sister. Thanks for sharing.

I never met him but if he's your family he has to be really special!

Well, you know, I like very much you, a nice face in the photograph. Your brother seemed also being a nice guy. I wish he was happy during his life. I am with both of you.

Now, well you see, my blog is only a story.

Excuse me for my english.

Nita, thanks.
"Passeio-me" means "I'm going for a walk". She was going for a walk in the gardens of his father's palace.

Ahhh Sister, I haven't cried about Brother Mo for awhile but your post did it.

Yes he certainly was a special man. he breathed music. Its like he WAS music. I know his music touched everyone who ever heard him sing... especially his sisters.

Thanks for all the nice comments about this tribute to Morris.

There's more to the story, his last days, about faith and peace and miracles of Jesus Loves Me and Amazing Grace....old gospel songs our family had sang through the years. A story of who Morris was...even at the end, when he couldn't complete a coherent sentence. And God's grace....amazing grace.

But it's mostly Faye's story, and it's a wonderful story.

Faye, if you ever want to write about it here, you'll have my password to do whatever you want.

This is more than just a tribute to someone you have loved. It's a story all by itself, one with both pain and joy. Thanks for sharing your wonderful photo and heartfelt story.
